Throughout my ten years of experience in the education field, I have held a variety of roles and responsibilities, including teacher, coach, mentor and program assistant. As an undergraduate student at Occidental College my experiences as a teacher’s assistant for a summer school biology program encouraged me to continue to pursue the education field after graduation. I worked for an educational nonprofit for two years promoting higher education (two-year, four-year and trade schools) for under-served high school students in Northeast Los Angeles. During this time I also worked as a cross country and track coach for four years, mentoring student-athletes. I then transitioned into a full time classroom teacher where I have been teaching English at various levels for the past nine years. I have been a founding member of my school’s Educational Technology Committee for the past two years where I have led professional development workshops and developed instructional videos for faculty development.
Recently, I graduated from Arizona State University’s Master of Education in Learning Design and Technologies program. As a part of my cumulative applied project for this program, I worked as a freelance Learning Designer and Technology Consultant for a independent, Grade 4-12 girls’ school in the Greater Los Angeles area, where I created a 1-hr. asynchronous online course that provided social media manager training for Grade 9-12 students interested in running school-affiliated Instagram accounts for their sport’s team, club or extracurricular organization.
