Learning & Development Website

#LearningHub #WebDesign

I worked as the educational technologist for a private, college-preparatory high school with a 1:1 iPad program, supporting faculty with technology integration and blended learning. Prior to transitioning into the role, the organization lacked a system to access, archive and deliver past trainings, workshops and resources as part of a sustained training and professional learning program. I identified the need for a learning and development website to address knowledge and skills gaps related to technology that were affecting instructor success, flexibility, and ease of teaching.

    The Problem

Most faculty members measured at a low level of digital and technology literacy, which had an impact on their success, flexibility, and ease of teaching in a blended learning format.

The organization lacked a system to access, archive and deliver past trainings, workshops, and resources as part of a sustained training and professional learning program. New hires and employees who missed past trainings were unable to access the appropriate resources, further increasing the knowledge gap.

    The Solution

A training and professional learning website for employees to access past trainings, video tutorials, templates, and curated resources. Designed in Google Sites, the website consisted of both organization-wide trainings and personalized, professional learning resources. Content included educational technology best practices, blended learning onboarding resources for faculty, and software training for free and licensed program.

    The ID Theory

Andragogy principles drove the design of the website through learner choice of training opportunities; connection to previous teaching experience; and explanations of the training’s relevance, practical uses, and direct application.

Microlearning strategies were applied to video tutorials and new trainings added. Past and curated used a variety of learning strategies and instructional models.
